(TNS) We used to have respect for John Bolton because other than his constant harping for more and more war, he is legitimately a sharp-as-tacts foreign policy and diplomatic expert who deeply believes in his version of America’s place in the world.

But after the Washington Post reported Thursday that he may “defy” the Trump administration and his former boss and “testify” before Adam Schiff’s secret squirrel impeachment inquiry, whatever respect remained for him dissipated.
For if true, then Bolton will simply become the foreign policy version of Bill Kristol, failed ‘conservative’ who has become the Left’s favorite sorta-right-leaning NeverTrumper.
The Washington Post:
Bolton could be a powerful witness for Democrats: Top State Department and national security officials have already testified that he was deeply concerned about efforts by Trump and his allies to push Ukraine to open investigations into the president’s political rivals while the Trump administration held up military aid to that country.
The former national security adviser, who abruptly left his post in September, is expected to confirm their statements and describe his conversations with Trump, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the ongoing inquiry.
Since the Post had this ‘bombshell,’ we have to wonder right off the bat whether it’s even true. Call us kooky; the Post has published more fake news in the Age of Trump than the National Inquirer.
If true, however, let’s consider that the Post got the leak for a reason: Bolton is ticked off at Trump for firing him and for refusing to invade every single country with which we have a disagreement, so he turns to a Left-wing propaganda rag for the Garbage Party to vent that frustration.
But stop and think for a moment and reread that first Post paragraph.
And consider this: What could Bolton possibly tell Schiff and the Democrats about any ‘illegal activity’ by President Trump regarding Ukraine that is true or that matters?
We all know from the transcript that the White House released of the phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky that there was never any threat to withhold military aid. In fact, Trump is the president who delivered on sending military aid to Ukraine; Obama, by comparison, refused (even though the U.S., via the Budapest Memorandum, was required by agreement to defend Ukraine after Russia stole the Crimea and sent Moscow-backed rebels into the country’s east).
What could Bolton or anyone possibly say during testimony, under oath, and — later, under cross-examination by Republicans during any impeachment trial — that would be legitimately damaging to the president and support his impeachment?
This entire “Ukraine quid pro quo-turned abuse of power-turned bribery” narrative is a fabrication of the deep state, the latest effort in the ongoing coup attempt against the president.
This is no bombshell, even if Bolton does ‘defy the White House’ and sit down for ‘testimony’ before Schiff’s fake impeachment inquiry. Because there is no impeachable offense. It’s a fake story.
If Bolton wants to always be remembered as the consummate deep state, political establishment toady, by all means, ‘testimony’ away. Nothing he says will hold up to the scrutiny of transparency and cross examination should this impeachment become real anyway.
