Another day, another mainstream media fake news report: NBC, ABC, forced to walk back report over Cohen ‘phone tap’

(National SentinelFalse Report: A pair of broadcast networks are walking back a “bombshell” story that President Donald J. Trump’s personal lawyer’s phone was “tapped” by federal investigators looking into Trump-Russia “collusion.”

NBC News was first to report that not only were Cohen’s phone lines being monitored “for months” but that investigators had intercepted at least one phone call between him and the White House.

ABC News subsequently ran a story “confirming” the NBC News report.

Both were wrong, however.

“Earlier today, NBC News reported that there was a wiretap on the phones of Michael Cohen, President Trump’s longtime personal attorney, citing two separate sources with knowledge of the legal proceedings involving Cohen,” NBC News reported in a “correction.”

“But three senior U.S. officials now dispute that, saying that the monitoring of Cohen’s phones was limited to a log of calls, known as a pen register, not a wiretap where investigators can actually listen to calls. NBC News has changed the headline and revised parts of the original article,” the correction stated.

Obtaining pen registers is somewhat different — and far less dramatic — than the original claim that Cohen’s conversations were intercepted.

As expected, the president blasted to the original NBC report.

“NBC NEWS is wrong again! They cite sources’ which are constantly wrong. Problem is, like so many others, the sources probably don’t exist, they are fabricated, fiction! NBC, my former home with the Apprentice, is now as bad as Fake News CNN. Sad!” Trump tweeted.

On Thursday, presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani told The Daily Beast he did not believe the initial reports that Cohen’s phones had been tapped.

“Us lawyers have talked about it, we don’t believe it’s true,” Giuliani said, referencing Trump’s entire legal team.

“We think it’s going to turn out to be untrue because it would be totally illegal. You can’t wiretap a lawyer, you certainly can’t wiretap his client who’s not involved in the investigation. No one has suggested that Trump was involved in that investigation.

“So they’re going to wiretap the lawyer, his client, and his client the president of the United States? I don’t think so, not if they want to stay out of jail. Disclosing a wiretap is a federal felony. I never took ’em home when I was a U.S. attorney,” he continued.

J. D. Heyes, editor-in-chief of The National Sentinel, noted that there has been a staggering amount of “fake news from the establishment media in the Age of Trump,” which helps explain why a record number of Americans no longer trust them.

“And yet Facebook and Google and some of the other big tech media giants are down-rating or banning content from our publication and other conservative, alternative media that’s honest and truthful, which only proves that the decision is political, not based on any factual accounting or recent performances,” he added.

“If we put out that kind of fake news nonsense we’d be shut down in a week,” he added. “As a journalist, I shake my head at the ease with which these legacy news organizations continually allow themselves to be manipulated and used by the Deep State just because they don’t like Trump. Amazing.”
