(TNS) Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) needs to figure out what she wants to be: A Republican on the side of truth and justice, or a Democrat who is willing to bend every rule, break every vow, and destroy the Constitution in order to remain in power.

In an interview with reporters Saturday, Murkowski the ‘Moderate’ (how come there are no ‘moderate’ Democrats?) said she wanted to wait and hear what House Democratic impeachment managers and the president’s defense team had to say before deciding whether to call for additional ‘witnesses.’
“I don’t know what more we need until I’ve been given the base case,” Murkowski said, adding that she expected Senate Majority Leader (R-Ky.) to table any attempt from Democrats to add certain witnesses to an organizing resolution, according to The Associated Press.
She indicated that she’d support tabling the Democrats’ request, saying that she’s “worked hard” to make sure the process allows for “determination” on whether additional witnesses or documents are necessary for the trial.
“But I want to have that at a point where I know whether or not I’m going to need it,” she said, according to the AP. “[My responsibility is] not to focus on the politics of where we are but a recognition that we are in the midst of an infrequent and in many ways extraordinary process that the Constitution allows for, and I’m going to take my constitutional obligations very, very seriously.”
She wants to “really hear the case” before deciding, she added.
We would ask, rhetorically, “Is she serious?” — but alas, we know she is. And frankly, that’s troubling.
If Murkowski’s Alaska constituency wanted her to take this wishy-washy, sorta, kinda, stance on impeaching a president whom she knows is innocent, that’s one thing, we suppose. After all, she was elected to represent them.
But if, on the other hand, this nonsensical, unethical, and confusing position on ‘witnesses’ is just another way in which she’s betraying her party and the president, then it’s unacceptable.
Anyone with a modicum of common sense knows President Trump is as guilty of impeachable offenses as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is of committing acts of extreme fairness.
The entire House process was a sham — a sick joke designed not to ‘get to the bottom’ of the president’s ‘misdeeds, but a set-up from the get-go, and not an incredibly original one at that. It was a process largely conducted in secret. It was one-sided — Democrats only — and the president’s people weren’t allowed to refute or rebut anyone.
Indeed, the so-called “whistleblower” who was in contact with House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff’s office the entire time wasn’t even deposed.
Now, suddenly, Murkowski is leaving the door open for…witnesses? To what? She knows this president isn’t guilty of what he’s been accused of doing. The House didn’t even cite a single law the president supposedly broke to justify the two articles of impeachment returned.
If ever there was a political impeachment, not one designed to punish wrongdoing in the White House under terms described by the Constitution, this one is it.
Hell, Democrats have even pledged to impeach Trump again — for something — if this one doesn’t succeed in tossing him out on the street.
So, enough of this “moderate” stuff. Enough of the waffling, feet-shuffling with head down, ‘Oh, I just don’t know,’ kind of vaguery.
We have a country to save, not just a president. We have a Constitution to salvage. And Republicans seem to be the only party interested in do that.
It’s time for Murkowski to drop the ‘go along to get along’ schtick, and stop letting those partisan jackals in the Washington media frighten her. Democrats have shown time and again they are willing to blow up the country — probably literally — to get back their power.
So step up, Lisa, and grow a spine. You said you want to do the right thing and preserve the Constitution; prove it by voting to acquit this president and stop this latest coup attempt in its tracks.
