After Mayor Pete threw his entire police department under a bus, officers warning of a ‘mass exodus’

(NationalSentinel) Fallout over the way 2020 Democratic presidential contender and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg handled a police shooting in his city earlier this summer is beginning to steamroll, with officers threatening a “mass exodus” after morale has fallen to a historic low.

As we reported earlier this month, the president of the Sound Bend, Ind., police association is boldly refuting allegations by Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a 2020 Democratic presidential contender, that a recent shooting involving a white officer and a black suspect, Erik Logan, was racially motivated:

During an appearance on Fox News‘ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Harvey Mills of the South Bend Fraternal Order of Police said the incident had nothing to do with “skin color,” but rather centered around an officer defending himself against a felony suspect who was attempting to attack him with an eight-inch knife.

In a speech in Chicago at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition with the Rev. Jesse Jackson Monday, Buttigieg essentially threw his entire police force under a bus when he suggested that there was deep-rooted racial bias within the department.

He also claimed that he has been ‘working’ to fix a racial disparity on the majority-white force, noting that “young African Americans not trusting police and therefore not wanting to become police officers” is one reason why NPR reported.

Buttigieg said in his speech that South Bend is a “city that has known its measure of pain.” He added that he has worked to increase police professionalism, decrease bias, increase de-escalation tactics, but “whatever we’ve done has not been enough.”

“This is not just a political problem and it is not just a police problem and it is not just my problem or my city’s problem. And it is certainly not a black problem. This is an American problem, demanding nationwide solutions,” he claimed.

During the shooting, the officer’s body camera was turned off, but Mills said there wasn’t a speck of racial animous involved.

“This is about an officer that was forced to defend himself against a dangerous felon who used an eight-inch hunting knife to attack him,” said Mills. “That’s all this incident is about.”

Asked about the overall effects of Buttigieg’s criticism on the department, Mills said it is grossly “demoralizing.”

“You know, he used the term ‘systemic racism,’” Mills noted. “Maybe he doesn’t understand the definition of ‘systemic.’ We do. That means he’s basically called all police officers racist, and that is blatantly untrue.”

Now, thanks to Buttigieg’s insinuation that his city’s police force is packed with bigots and racists, the force is threatening to disintegrate.

“I think you’re going to see a mass exodus, our administration is a joke,” one officer told Fox News.

Other officers said morale was at an all-time low and added that officers do “nothing” now.

“We call ourselves firemen, we sit around in parking lots until we’re called and then we go to the call, because if you say or do something wrong, then you get hung,” one officer said.

Another cop said he expected as many as 10 officers to bail over the next year. And Mills said he’s spoken to five or six officers who were considering leaving the force because of Buttigieg’s response to the shooting.

Officers also said Buttigieg never attends the annual event in the city commemorating fallen officers.

“When you see the politics and the way police officers are treated by the media and by politicians, it’s like, why would anyone want to sign up to do this job right now?” an officer said.

This trend of “blame cops first” began during the Obama years, when his politicized Justice Department under activist AGs Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch injected the federal government into local law enforcement activities under the guise of “racism.”

Thus, the revolt by police officers was both predictable and expected. Officers in Leftist-run cities all around the country have reported feeling similarly abandoned when the chips are down. Instead of being able to count on city leaders to have their backs, they are often thrown to the legal wolves instead.

Such responses, as noted above, are leading officers to either leave law enforcement altogether or seek employment with departments where they feel better protected. City officials like Buttigieg are also the reason why departments are having difficulty filling their ranks, like Seattle, where a socialist city councilwoman has also labeled the department “racist.”

  1. We had one queer president and that was enough. Buttgigger has no chance. Queers like exposure. That is the only reason Buttgigger is running.

“whatever we’ve done has not been enough.” - And I fear it never will be.

This is a problem that democrats and liberals have tried to deal with for decades now.
Headstart is a good example. Black kids didn’t do aswell in elementary school as white kids, so they introduced Headstart to help them out (and other poor families aswell).
Turns out, it didn’t really affect the racial gaps though.

Ever since the Civil Rights Act, Americans have been on a virtuous crusade to help out the blacks. Not only Headstart, but also Affirmative Action. Higher chances in hiring, needing 200 less points on the SAT than whites or asians, etc. to get into universities.

    Also media and support groups.
    - Black Enterprise Magazine The premier business, investing, and wealth-building resource for African Americans.
    - Black MBA Magazine The official magazine of the professional organization National Black MBA Association, which leads in the creation of economic and intellectual wealth for Blacks.
    - Black History Month
    - Black Lives Matter

And lately there have been movies. Like Black Panther. Soon a black woman will play in Disney’s Ariel. All this support. All this help.
And then Mayor Pete Buttigieg is of the opinion, that they “just don’t do enough” yet. - Sadly it is true.

As a quick look at the FBI crime statistics shows, the blacks are - despite all of this - still responsible for 53% of the homicides and make up 40% of the cop killers.
Maybe Mayor Pete Buttigieg is right. Maybe we haven’t done enough for the african americans yet or maybe he should consider the possibility that it will never be enough.
