Another Ivy League psychologist violates APA rules with long-distance mental ‘diagnosis’ of POTUS Trump

By Jon Dougherty

(NationalSentinel) In case you wondered just how deep-rooted Trump Derangement Syndrome has become on the Left, the establishment media has now ‘mainstreamed’ long-distance diagnoses of mental health disorders when it comes to our much-maligned president.

The latest comes from another Ivy League mental health ‘professional,’ Dr. Brandy X. Lee, a forensic psychiatrist and Yale School of Medicine’s “expert on violence.”

As noted by PJ Media, Lee was sought out by the paragon of virtue and media excellence (insert heavy sarcasm here) Raw Story to find out what she thought of the president’s “racist” tweets this week that the rest of the garbage media and the Democrat Party have assigned to “The Squad” — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley.

Asked about Trump’s use of “foul language and racist hatred” (how’s that for a loaded, lay-up question?) Dr. Lee said:

The first thing this indicates to me is that the president is deteriorating rapidly. He attacks as a maladaptive means of coping with stress, and he won’t stop. Given the rigidity of his repertoire, we can expect more, escalating attacks.

Secondly, his racism also lays bare his dangerousness. If the actual content of Robert Mueller’s report were to be understood properly, rather than in the light of distortion and deflection the Attorney General to protect him, or the ‘No collusion! No obstruction!’ hypnotism he has managed so far, things could become uncontrollable.

Mind you, Dr. Lee — like other Left-wing kook psychiatrists and psychologists who have offered a similar opinion of the president — has never examined POTUS Trump even once, let alone sat in the same room with him.

How is it possible, then, for Lee to make this diagnosis?

Well, according to the treatment standards of the American Psychiatric Association, the “Goldwater Rule” says it is unethical for practitioners to make long-distance diagnoses without an exam:

7. 3. On occasion psychiatrists are asked for an opinion about an individual who is in the light of public attention or who has disclosed information about himself/herself through public media. In such circumstances, a psychiatrist may share with the public his or her expertise about psychiatric issues in general. However, it is unethical for a psychiatrist to offer a professional opinion unless he or she has conducted an examination and has been granted proper authorization for such a statement. — APA’s Principles of Medical Ethics With Annotations Especially Applicable to Psychiatry

The rule was adopted after another Republican presidential contender in an earlier era, Sen. Barry Goldwater, a conservative’s conservative, was similarly lambasted by the Leftist establishment in the 1964 election cycle:

“Do you believe Barry Goldwater is psychologically fit to serve as President of the United States?” the editors of Fact magazine asked 12,356 psychiatrists during the 1964 presidential campaign between Goldwater and Lyndon Johnson.

The responses set off a wave of reaction that resonated again most recently after media speculation about the mental status of the current Republican presidential candidate.

Fact published numerous comments questioning Sen. Barry Goldwater’s psychological capacity for office, which ultimately led to the creation of APA’s “Goldwater Rule” in 1973.

A look at the original episode reveals as much about psychiatry’s changes over the last half century as it does about politics then or now.

The harshly negative responses by people who had never even met Goldwater seem astonishing by today’s standards, as a sampling suggests:

“I believe Goldwater to be suffering from a chronic psychosis,” wrote one.

“A megalomaniacal, grandiose omnipotence appears to pervade Mr. Goldwater’s personality giving further evidence of his denial and lack of recognition of his own feelings of insecurity and ineffectiveness,” wrote another.

“From his published statements I get the impression that Goldwater is basically a paranoid schizophrenic who decompensates from time to time. … He resembles Mao Tse-tung,” said a third.

Not wanting to exclude other relevant 20th-century tyrants, another claimed, “I believe Goldwater has the same pathological makeup as Hitler, Castro, Stalin, and other known schizophrenic leaders.”

Others pushed back, mind you, but the point is, the operation was successful: More Americans believed these crackpots than believed Goldwater and he lost to President Lyndon B. Johnson, even though not one of the ‘experts’ had ever sat down and performed a legitimate mental health exam on Goldwater.

The Left is bankrupt when it comes to new approaches to public policy, and they rely on the same old tired, worn-out strategies when it comes to President Trump. Labeling him “crazy! crazy!” is a wash, rinse, repeat of an earlier discrediting strategy the APA has been unable to successfully stamp out.

Maybe the organization should start pulling certifications when members violate Rule 7.3? It’s the least it can do.

Dr. Brandy X. Lee can blow it out his ass!

  2. Trump is crazy all right, crazy like a fox. He brands and bullschits and never delivers anything to the rubes that elected him. That would be you and me. He gives us rallies, a song and a dance and we lap it up satisfied.

Meanwhile Trump hasn’t locked anyone up. He hasn’t released the documents. He hasn’t drained the swamp. He hasn’t shut down the border. He can use the army so save all your excuses about congress and the courts. Anyway, what did Trump expect? Did he expect the establishment wouldn’t oppose him? Trump declares an national emergency, runs a news cycle, or two and then forgets all about the border. Meanwhile America is drowning in illegals and drugs as the tax payers continue to be bled white. America is dying. Is anyone listening, or are you just enjoying the rallies?

The crowd chants “Send her back,” his crowd, his supporters and Trump distances himself. Why? Because it really frightened the establishment and that frightens Trump who has no intention of doing anything to save our America. If Trump were to unleash his supporters congress and the courts and the media would be helpless, but he won’t. Trump has no intention of changing anything. His idea of MAGA means make America great again for guys like him to make business deals.

Trump is cagey all right, “Wily” enough, but he’s all branding, marketing, gold leaf and sales, which is to say bullschit. Why hasn’t Barr charged a single person for prima facia, public record felonies. I can think of a dozen. We all can. Because his job is to run out the clock while Trump distances himself. Trump says, I stay away from all that.” How cute is that? An executive trick to avoid any accountability. Hey Mr. President, we didn’t elect you to stay away from it, you phony blow hard. We elected you to fix it, Mr. bullschit.
