You’d have to be a pretty awful human being to be hoping for a market crash just so it will negatively impact POTUS Donald Trump’s support to the point where he could be impeached.

But that’s what #NeverTrumper John Podhoretz of the recently deceased #NeverTrump magazine The Weekly Standard wants to see. And he’s admitted as much on Twitter.

“How many people’s hearts sank when they saw the Dow went up 1,000 points because they really hoped Trump had plunged us into a bear market that would cause GOP legislators to turn on him and support removal after impeachment?” he wrote on Wednesday.

But what can we expect, given that The Weekly Standard‘s co-founder, Bill Kristol, has expressed similar sentiments?

“A question to debate at your Christmas meal or Chinese restaurant: Has the combination of the November election results plus a bear market plus the departure of Mattis begun—at last!— to shake Republican support for Trump?” he tweeted on Christmas Eve.

Just. Wow.

It’s not that these two jerks are #NeverTrumpers, per se. It’s America; they can support or oppose whichever political candidates they want.

What’s galling, however, is that they so oppose this president they are actually hoping that tens of millions of ordinary Americans lose all of their retirement savings just so they can gloat over POTUS Trump’s impeachment.

That’s not just elitist and selfish, its unbelievably cruel. And heartless.

Democrats are set to take over the House in a few weeks so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that POTUS Trump could be impeached because it only takes a majority in the lower chamber; however, there would have to be about 20 or so Republicans in the Senate to join with minority Democrats in order to ‘convict’ him.

And that’s only if he’s guilty of a “high crime or misdemeanor.” So far, no one’s been able to show that he is.

Also, there is no groundswell of support among the American people for the president’s impeachment. In fact, were he to be impeached, that might just be the spark that ignites the second American Revolution.

Some took to POTUS Trump’s defense, including supporter Arthur Schwartz–a former senior strategic adviser to Wall Street titan and billionaire Maurice R. Greenberg, the founder and former chairman and chief executive officer of insurance giant AIG, who mocked Podhoretz.

President Trump is far from perfect. But he’s also no criminal and he was duly elected.

Wishing for an economic calamity in our country, which would be felt around the world because of the size of our economy, just so you can lower his approval rating enough to get him impeached is demented.

But these texts from “conservatives” Krystol and Podhoretz prove beyond doubt that the #NeverTrump faction of the GOP prefers economic collapse to the most right-leaning president since Ronald Reagan.
