Gowdy says DoJ investigators should ‘look for Emails Between Brennan and Comey in December of 2016’ (Video)

By Jon Dougherty

For former GOP Rep. Trey Gowdy, the path to discovering at what point the Obama regime and his politicized Justice Department and FBI began its ‘Spygate’ operation against the 2016 Trump campaign is an easy one to follow.

During an appearance Monday night on Fox News‘ “Hannity” program, the South Carolina Republican said that DoJ investigators have “an easy road map to follow” and suggested that they begin by looking for certain “emails between [former CIA director John] Brennan and [former FBI director James] Comey in December of 2016.”

Gowdy’s comments came as The New York Times reported Monday evening that Attorney General William Barr appointed John H. Durham, a U.S. attorney from Connecticut who specializes in corruption and abuse of power probes, to look into the genesis of Spygate.

Fox News followed up the Times story on Tuesday with a report that Barr actually assigned Durham to look into the case several weeks ago.

In addition, as we have reported, DoJ Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz is also reviewing the FBI’s election year surveillance activities and potential political bias in their decision-making.

As for Gowdy, he said “there’s an easy road map to follow” for DoJ investigators, adding that their task should be to find out when the FBI began to connect the Trump campaign with the Russia probe.

Gowdy, who oversaw one of Congress’ investigation into the Russian collusion hoax in the House before retiring in January, said the probes should also be looking into how the FBI itself assessed British spy Christopher Steele, the author of the discredited “dirty dossier.”

“They have their own internal documents,” Gowdy noted. “Part of what Lindsey [Graham] wants to make public are the internal FBI documents where they did their own assessment. And I think you’ll be surprised at whether or not they viewed Steele as being credible.”

Host Sean Hannity asked Gowdy if he believes James Comey’s FBI committed fraud with the FISA court in using the widely discredited dossier as justification to seek a surveillance warrant against Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Not only does Gowdy think so, but he said it’s actually worse than that.

“It is what you described, in addition to withholding of exculpatory information — which has (Rep.) Johnny Ratcliffe so exercised. And they made no effort to corroborate the dossier until after it had been used in the application and a renewal. No effort. It’s not that they failed. They made no effort to do it,” he said.

“Whoever’s investigating this, tell them to look for emails between Brennan and Comey in December of 2016.”

Gowdy ought to know.

Barr/Dunham are seasoned, stable investigators, not self serving loudmouth do nothings like Gowdy. They need no advice from that showboater. Gowdy had his 2 years to act like a decent investigator. Instead, he was a thorn. He supported the spying on Trump, explicitly stated so on TV.
