It used to be a universal truth in America that underaged children were not capable of making extreme life-altering decisions because they had neither the life experience nor the mental maturity to do so wisely.
But then, for some reason, too many patriots and conservatives allowed insane leftists to begin dominating our culture even though they are in the minority and begin pushing things like ‘kids are perfectly capable of making their own minds up about changing their sex.’
Except that kids today are like kids 100, 200, 300 years ago — they aren’t capable of making extreme life-altering decisions because (seen the first line of this story).
So when Republicans in Arkansas, along with GOP Gov. Asa Hutchison, passed legislation recently barring this practice of allowing kids to decide whether to get transgender surgery or take hormone blockers, they did so with the universal truth stated in the lead paragraph in mind.
Naturally, of course, because the left has lost their minds, there was major pushback from the usual suspects.
However, a gaggle of red-state attorneys general are joining with Hutchison and Arkansas Republicans, injecting a much-needed massive dose of sanity into this topic, as the Christian Post reports:
More than a dozen state attorneys general have come to the defense of an Arkansas law banning the use of puberty blockers on children with gender dysphoria amid a legal challenge, arguing that states have an obligation to 'protect kids.'
Led by Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, the Republican attorneys general of Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Texas filed an amicus brief in federal court last Tuesday.
They asked the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas to reject the ACLU’s motion to block Arkansas' Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act. The law, the first of its kind to be passed in the nation, prohibits physicians from providing puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and elective cosmetic gender surgeries to children under 18.
The ACLU should be ashamed of itself but it isn’t because it’s been a major driver of counter-cultural lunacy in this country for decades.
So we are left to rely on a federal court or, more likely several federal courts and probably the Supreme Court, to reimpose the universal truth about children in our country: They can’t make these kinds of decisions rationally because they’re not experienced enough in life to do so.
We aren’t confident. But we are pleased to see these states step up. Someone needed to. These are our children, after all.
