Rep. Tom Rice of South Carolina was one of just 10 Republicans who voted to impeach President Donald Trump earlier this month over the bulls**t allegation that the former president ‘incited an insurrection’ at the U.S. Capitol Building Jan. 6.
What happened at the Capitol was a riot — no different than the riots BLM and Antifa started all last year. And Trump didn’t even incite that.
It’s hard for us to wrap our heads around such allegations when the man literally told his supporters during a pre-riot speech to march to the Capitol and demonstrate “peacefully.”
In any event, one of the other “Impeachment Republicans,” Rep. Adam Kinzinger of the failed state of Illinois, says the GOP isn’t Trump’s party.
Oh, but it is, as Republicans in Rice’s own state have just reminded him.
The South Carolina Republican Party formally censured Rep. Tom Rice (R-SC) on Saturday after he broke with most of his party to vote in favor of impeaching former President Donald Trump.
The organization announced it had voted on the resolution to censure Rice after the South Carolina Republican was one of ten from his party to vote in favor of impeaching Trump for 'incitement of insurrection' for the then-president's alleged role in spurring the attack on the Capitol, which resulted in five deaths.
'We made our disappointment clear the night of the impeachment vote. Trying to impeach a president, with a week left in his term, is never legitimate and is nothing more than a political kick on the way out the door,' South Carolina GOP chair Drew McKissick said in a statement.
'Congressman Rice's vote unfortunately played right into the Democrats' game, and the people in his district, and ultimately our State Executive Committee, wanted him to know they wholeheartedly disagree with his decision.”
No kidding. There have even been reports in recent days indicating federal investigators believe the riot was pre-planned, meaning, of course, that Trump didn’t have a damned thing to do with ‘inciting’ anyone.
So the handful of GOP impeachment votes did not age well.
Censure is just the beginning of Rice’s end, we hope. He should be primaried in 2022; if this censure is any indication, we believe he will be.
