If you live in Seattle, you might think seriously about getting out. Now.
Mayor Jenny Durkan, a left-wing Democrat, is not left-wing enough for the socialists and Marxists on the city council.
Durkan, a former federal prosecutor, at least had the good sense to veto a “defund the police” measure the Soros-backed anarchists on the council passed earlier this summer.
But the council has now overridden Durkan’s veto, meaning the Seattle Police Dept. — already neutered — is about to be gutted.
This comes after former Police Chief Carmen Best quit after the city cut her salary.
It’s about to get real ugly in Seattle.
Seattle's City Council voted 7-2 Tuesday evening to override Mayor Jenny Durkan’s veto of a bill that would cut police funding by around $3 million.
“We cannot look away from this and we can no longer accept the status quo if we truly believe that Black lives matter,” Council President Lorena Gonzalez said, according to MyNorthwest.com.
The bill would also remove as many as 100 officers from various police units and limit staff pay to $150,000, The Seattle Times reported.
The council said the bill was a “downpayment” toward its effort to ultimately defund the department by 50%, which would likely happen next year.
These initial cuts are going to lead to ‘losses by attrition’ — that is, cops will begin bailing out on the city in search of a department and city that still values law and order.
And when that 50 percent cut comes next year, that’s when the ‘real fun’ starts.
Remember the police-free ‘CHOP zone?’ By the time Durkan ordered it dismantled four weeks after ‘peaceful protesters’ formed the zone, it had turned into a shooting gallery.
Like we said — if you live in Seattle, get out now.
