Left-wing indoctrination on the campuses of our universities and colleges has completely replaced rational discourse as the minions Marxist academics created and are unleashing on the world demand conformity of thought and action.
The latest indicator emanates from the ‘hallowed halls’ of the University of Missouri, home to one of the nation’s top journalism schools, where students aren’t taught to pursue the truth and report facts but rather push Leftist political objectives.
As reported by Breitbart News, thousands of students and faculty are demanding that a statue of founding father Thomas Jefferson be removed from The Quad at Mizzou because racism!
The site notes:
A petition that has been signed by over 3,000 members of the community argues that the Jefferson statue has 'no place' on the Mizzou campus. In the petition, the students cite Jefferson's ownership of more than 600 slaves as a justification for removal of the statue.
According to the petition:
Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, owned more than 600 African-American slaves throughout his adult life. Mizzou has no room for a racist slave owner on our campus, in the Quad, where thousands of black students pass by everyday, forced to deal with imagery of the past in the future where we should be promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
A memorial of a racist has no place on our campus. The vast majority of these Confederate monuments were built during the era of Jim Crow laws (1877–1964). Detractors like us know that they were not built as memorials but as a means of intimidating African Americans and reaffirming white supremacy.
Of course, Jefferson was an original American and never a ‘Confederate’ but what does truth and factual history mean on a modern American campus anymore?
In any event, not all students are Leftist parrots. About 500 or so have launched a counter-petition to keep the statue in place (and truth be told, there would probably be a lot more students sign that petition that aren’t out of fear of being targeted by the ‘tolerant’ people).
Though Jefferson recognized the grave evils of slavery, he remained a slaveholder. However, is it truly fair to judge a man based on our 21st century understanding of morality, when the man we are judging lived in a time where slavery was the norm? Is it truly fair to defame a former president who wrote the Declaration of Independence, where he expressed that 'all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness'?
Jefferson did not live up to all of his values, nor should we expect him to have lived up to all of them. Who among us has lived up to all of the values we uphold? Who among us is perfect?
Here’s what Jefferson and the other founders did do: They drafted and ratified a Constitution that enabled later generations of Americans to correct injustices and change society to be better reflective of shifting values and mores.
And we have done that, as a country.
But alas, as we see daily now in the aftermath of George Floyd, nothing is, or will ever be, good enough for the minions short of a complete dismantling of American rebuilt with authoritarianism.
