The brother of George Floyd, the Minneapolis man who died a week ago at the hands of police, condemned the rioting and looting allegedly going on in his name, saying that people should do something “positive” instead.

Terrence Floyd said that the death of his older brother at times makes him angry, but he’s refraining from violence, he says, because George Floyd would not have wanted that.

The riots are 'overshadowing what's going on,' Floyd said in an interview broadcast on ABC's 'Good Morning America' early Monday.

'He was about peace, he was about unity, but the things that are transpiring now—they may call it unity but it's destructive unity, it's not what he was about. It's not what my brother is about,' Floyd said.

'If you're angry, it's OK to be angry, but channel your anger to do something positive or make a change another way because we've been down this road already. He would want us to seek justice the way we are, the way we're trying to do, but channel it another way. The anger, damaging your hometown is not the way he'd want.'

Terrence Floyd added, “[S]ometimes I get angry, I want to bust some heads, too,” Terrence Floyd said. “I wanna … just go crazy. But I'm here. My brother wasn't about that. My brother was about peace. You'll hear a lot of people say he was a gentle giant.”

“When you spoke to him, he always wanted to motivate you no matter what you were going through,” he said. “He always saw the light and the brightest side of things.

“He made you feel like you could just do anything, even if you’re going through something. That’s just how he spoke to you. He just really helped me. He was a motivator, that’s how I could just sum it up, he was a peaceful motivator,” Floyd added.

His comments were very similar to those of Floyd’s girlfriend, who said last week he would be “devastated” to see his city burning.

'I am heartbroken,' Floyd’s girlfriend Courtney Ross said about the chaos. 'Waking up this morning to see Minneapolis on fire would be something that would devastate Floyd.

“He loves the city. He came here [from Houston] and stayed here for the people and the opportunities… Floyd was a gentle giant. He was about love and peace,” she added.

Others have begun condemning the violence as inappropriate and unhelpful.
