President Donald Trump on Friday said “Sleepy Joe” Biden was involved with the “Russiagate” scandal while he was serving as Barack Obama’s vice president.
“Sleepy Joe was involved in this very much,” Trump said during a segment on “Fox & Friends.”
Fox News added:
Trump’s interview on Fox News and his accusation against the former vice president come the day after the House Intelligence Committee released long-awaited transcripts with dozens of witnesses that took part in their probe of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and whether the then-Trump presidential campaign colluded with Moscow.
The transcripts indicated that top Obama officials said they knew of no “direct” evidence of collusion involving the Trump campaign, despite their concerns and suspicions.
Biden’s name has not been associated much with the Russiagate scandal, of which there is enough anecdotal evidence now to suggest that there was a concerted effort by the Obama administration and elements of the FBI, Justice Department, State Department, and intelligence community to place spies in the 2016 Trump campaign and then undermine the president’s administration after his victory.
But neither has President Obama been mentioned much in association with an operation there is virtually no way he could not have known about.
The idea that ‘rogue’ elements within the intelligence community, the FBI and the Justice Department would have simply launched ‘Spygate’ on their own is absurd. Plus, Obama, as president, would be getting daily intelligence briefings anyway — including all counterintelligence ops, which is what Spygate — formally known as “Crossfire Hurricane” — was.
Plus, it’s important to note that in early January, Obama’s top spy and law enforcement officials met in his office to reportedly discuss how much ‘Russia info’ to share with Trump and his incoming administration.
President Barack Obama met in January 2017 with then-FBI Director James Comey and other top national security officials to discuss sharing information related to Russia with the incoming Trump administration, where Obama stated that the Trump-Russia investigation should be handled “by the book,” according to an email made public Monday and a source familiar with the matter.
The previously undisclosed meeting was memorialized in an email written by then-National Security Adviser Susan Rice on Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day. A person familiar with the January 5, 2017, meeting said the Obama administration wanted to know whether the FBI and others in the intelligence community believed there was a national security reason to limit conversations with the Trump transition about Russia because some on the incoming President’s team could be compromised.
The email was disclosed by Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley and Sen. Lindsey Graham, who sent a letter Monday to Rice asking why she had sent the email to herself on the day of Trump’s inauguration about an Oval Office meeting on Russian election interference. The meeting included Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Comey and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates.
If you can recall, Rice actually sent herself an email shortly after Trump was inaugurated to ‘commemorate’ the meeting, that was actually held 15 days earlier (why didn’t she write it the day of the meeting?).
“President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities ‘by the book,’ ” Rice wrote. “The President stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book.”
That sounds an awful lot like a “cover your A”-type of email.
In any event, President Trump has a point. It doesn’t make any sense that Biden would have been kept completely out of the loop.
