(TNS) We’ve avoided piling on the coronvirus outbreak stories out of concern that there was a lot of hype and not a lot of facts behind reported, but after the World Health Organization designated the pandemic a global emergency Thursday, we have begun to pay more attention.
And what we’ve discovered is this: A surprising number of credible outlets are now reporting details about the virus and its fallout that are actually pretty alarming.

According to various outlets, some 2,000Â new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in China on Thursday alone, while the death toll from the outbreak has reached 213. Globally, reports Zero Hedge, there are 9,816 cases.
That would seem to indicate far more cases that China has, up to now, been willing to divulge.
We’re aware that the Communist regime has, in the past, been less than honest in reporting things like outbreaks involving deadly viruses, food poisonings, and so forth. The regime does that because it does not want to create panic in a country of 1.3 billion people.
With that in mind, a story published by the New Zealand Herald claims that Chinese authorities are secretly cremating bodies of people killed by coronavirus:
World health officials, back from a visit to Beijing, expressed great concern that a dangerous new virus was spreading between people outside of China, even as the number of illnesses continue to grow dramatically inside that Asian nation.
The new virus has now infected more people in China than were sickened during the 2002-2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak. On Wednesday, the number of cases jumped to 5974, surpassing the 5327 people diagnosed with SARS.
The death toll, which stood at 132 on Wednesday, is lower than the 348 people who died in China from SARS.
Doubts have been raised about the official death toll, however, with claims Chinese authorities have been cremating bodies in secret.
Meanwhile, as Zero Hedge noted further:
DW News East Asia correspondent William Yang cited a report from Chinese-language news outlet Initium, which said cremation facilities in Wuhan, the epicenter of the deadly virus, were receiving bodies directly from hospitals without proper identification and were excluded from the official record.Â
Also, one thing that #China is hiding is the number of death caused by the virus. Credible Chinese media outlet @initiumnews interviewed people working at local cremation centers, confirming that many dead bodies were sent directly from the hospitals to the cremation centers…

“So there are reasons to remain skeptical about what China has been sharing with the world because while they have been more transparent about certain things related to the virus, they continue to be sketchy and unreliable in other aspects,” said Yang.
… without properly identifying these patients, which means there are patients who died from the virus but not adding to the official record. That shows the current death toll of 133 that we are seeing is way too low.

Here’s a video of an alleged crematorium:
If true, that would certainly suggest that China’s infection rate and death toll from the virus is much higher than the regime has been willing to report thus far.
WHO officials noted Thursday that they weren’t so concerned with China’s handling of the outbreak but rather its spread to other countries with fewer resources.
“Our greatest concern is the potential for the virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems and which are ill prepared to deal with it,” said WHO director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“The vast majority of cases outside of China have a travel history to Wuhan or contact with someone with a travel history to Wuhan. We don’t know what sort of damage this virus could do if it were to spread to a country with a weaker health system.â€
Adding to the dire nature of the outbreak, the South China Morning Post noted that one Chinese health expert said coronavirus patients who recover can actually get reinfected:
Medical experts on Friday warned that patients who had recovered from the virus were still at risk of being infected again, and said people should avoid any mass gathering, even dancing in public parks and squares – a popular activity for exercise in China.
Zhan Qingyuan, head of infectious diseases at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, said in a press briefing on Friday that people who had already had the virus would have developed antibodies but should remain on alert so they did not get ill again.

“The antibodies may not remain for a long time, so there is still a risk that these recovered patients will be infected again,†Zhan said. “They should continue to keep themselves protected.â€
Thus far, China has placed more than 100,000 people under coronavirus watch.
Earlier, health experts noted that people could be infected by the virus and not know it because they do not immediately exhibit signs and symptoms, which makes it even more difficult to contain.
