(TNS) During his 2019 State of the Union Address, President Donald Trump claimed that “America will never be a socialist country…we are born free, and we will stay free.”

Based on a couple of recent polls, we’re not so sure.
Recently, Gallup found that an astounding number of Millennials — four in 10 — “embrace some form of socialism.”
“While 51 percent of U.S. adults say socialism would be a bad thing for the country, 43 percent believe it would be a good thing. Those results contrast with a 1942 Roper/Fortune survey that found 40% describing socialism as a bad thing, 25 percent a good thing and 34 percent not having an opinion,” Gallup reported.
The polling firm also noted this very important detail:
Previous Gallup research shows that Americans’ definition of socialism has changed over the years, with nearly one in four now associating the concept with social equality and 17% associating it with the more classical definition of having some degree of government control over the means of production.Â

How would Americans’ attitudes about socialism change? The answer: They’re being brainwashed at a younger age to view socialism as something that it isn’t, in order to make it easier to accept. And the American Left is accomplishing this through primary education — our public schools.
This poll is shocking.
– 15% say the world would be better off if the Soviet Union still existed
– Just 57% think the Declaration of Independence better guarantees freedom & equality than the Communist Manifesto
We must better educate young Americans.

As Jarrett Stepman writes at The Daily Signal:
As young Americans are losing an understanding of civics and American history, they increasingly embrace socialism.
An annual poll conducted for the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation again found that the younger generations have a far sunnier view of socialism and communism than their elders.
Some of the findings from the YouGov survey, released Oct. 28, were deeply worrisome.
According to the poll, 70% of millennials responded that they are likely or extremely likely to vote for a “socialist.†About 50% said they have an unfavorable view of capitalism.
Incredibly, the poll found that “15% of millennials think the world would be better off if the Soviet Union still existed.â€
Seventy-six percent of respondents “are unaware that the Hitler-Stalin pact started World War II,†the poll found.
Perhaps worse than nostalgia for the Soviet Union, “57% of millennials (compared to 94% of the Silent Generation) believe the Declaration of Independence better guarantees freedom and equality over the Communist Manifesto.â€
The declaration made free men out of slaves, whereas the Communist Manifesto made slaves out of free men. The historical legacies of these documents, and the men who wrote them, couldn’t be clearer.
Sadly, that isn’t clear from the perspective of many young Americans.
Appalling, yes. But what’s the solution?
The American Left has been steadily taking over primary (and secondary) education in the country for decades, at least since the big progressive ‘breakout’ which began in the 1960s.
It will take decades to reverse this trend and even then, it will take the dedication of patriotic Americans properly educated in the founding of our country (and history) to infiltrate the public education system and wrest back control from the destructive Left.
And that’s provided we can produce enough properly educated young Americans willing to endure lousy pay, Left-wing bias and political abuse to inundate the primary and secondary education systems.
Good luck with that.
This Left-wing revisionist history is only further widening our political, social, and cultural divide. We continue to believe the solution to our “irreconcilable differences” as a nation is a peaceful divorce.
