(NationalSentinel) “Grey’s Anatomy” star Isaiah Washington says he’s no longer a Democrat and that his decision to leave the party will likely come at a significant “cost” in terms of his ability to continue working in liberal Hollywood.
During an interview on Fox Nation‘s “Nuff Said” program, Washington noted, “Walking away is a sacrifice. There’s a risk and a penalty for it but you have to walk away when it matters…and the reason I chose to walk away from the Democratic Party…is that something doesn’t feel right.”
Notably, Washington joined the burgeoning #WalkAway movement earlier this year following a visit to the White House to see President Donald Trump.
As Fox News reported, Washington blames Democrats for “not doing enough” for the black community, pointing to their lack of action over the years despite claiming to be the party best suited to represent America’s minority communities.
Washington, who once played Dr. Preston Burke on the hit television series, noted that he was never asked about his political preferences during his two years on the show. He also said that his political activism developed following a celebration at the White House when commemorating President Trump’s signing of the First Step Act.
The prison reform bill, which was passed with a bipartisan majority, reduces sentences for “earned good time,” and “assists former prisoners in reacclimatizing into society upon release.”
In April, Washington tweeted that he voted for President Obama — our first black president — twice, but never made the kind of inroads with him as he did with President Trump.
“I voted for 44 twice. I even checked my emails in his Senate Office while lobbying for Salone to be given another chance to rebrand. Not once in 8 years was I given any support regarding Africa or the Black Agenda, but 45 invites me to the WH to celebrate the #FirstStepAct,” he wrote.

On Monday, he lambasted other Hollywood conservatives for refusing to speak out.
“I have a message for the Hollywood Actors DM’ing me and revealing that you’re Conservatives. Don’t DM me again, because you all are lame and I don’t respond well to hypocrites or cowards. You’re no different than the bystander that is waiting on the blood to spill from a martyr,” he wrote.

A Green Party supporter, Washington joined Brandon Straka’s #WalkAway movement earlier this year, which encourages people to leave the Democratic Party.
He told The Daily Wire in April that he joined the movement “to support those who are just doing everything they can to stand on their own and say, ‘I don’t think this way.’ “
“I’m willing to have a town hall and I’m willing to have a dialogue that is not filled with nonsense that I think all of us are tired of, and even more tired of being used and exploited to pit our differences against one another,†the actor said at the time.
