(NationalSentinel) Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) has picked a fight with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) over the issue of gun control, but she’s been bested by former NRA spokeswoman and talk show hostess Dana Loesch, who used facts — and Chicago officials — to refute the mayor.
The feud comes as Chicago suffered another heavy casualty weekend of shootings, with more than 25 people shot and seven killed — the near-daily equivalent of a mass shooting.
“Gun control doesn’t work. Look at Chicago. Disarming law-abiding citizens isn’t the answer. Stopping violent criminals—prosecuting & getting them off the street—BEFORE they commit more violent crimes is the most effective way to reduce murder rates. Let’s protect our citizens,” Cruz tweeted on Labor Day.

That drew the ire Lightfoot, who tried to blame her city’s historic gun murder rate on…Republicans.
60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL—mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation. Keep our name out of your mouth. https://t.co/yVM4JHL3xy pic.twitter.com/pr613A3dpf

“60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL—mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation. Keep our name out of your mouth,” she wrote.
When @tedcruz and the @gop dismiss common sense gun policies, they disrespect victims and their families, who deserve to live without pain and fear.

She then went onto blame Cruz and Republicans for dismissing “common sense gun policies” — which, apparently, aren’t working in her city with strict gun control laws.
Loesch wasn’t having any of it. She counterattacked with local reporting in Chicago to refute Lightfoot’s “facts.” In fact, Loesch noted the biggest flaw in Lightfoot’s argument: It does not matter where guns come from if they wind up in the hands of people who, by law, aren’t supposed to have them.
“And the superintendent of your PD said that it’s “1400 repeat offenders driving this gun violence†https://wgntv.com/2017/06/23/rauner-signs-repeat-gun-offender-bill-with-cpd-supt-johnson-at-his-side/ … and that your courts keep cycling them through. Instead of fighting with a Texas senator, what are you going to do about what is driving your crime rate?” she tweeted.

“Those repeat offenders are already prohibited possessors — meaning it doesn’t matter where or which black market they obtain their weapons from, it’s all still illegal, @LightfootForChi. So what “common sense†legislation will improve your justice system, Mayor?” she added.

"Gun offenders get slaps on the wrist in this city – and it has to stop. I need our judicial partners and our state legislators to help me close this gap”https://t.co/EreMXOcw6I
What “common sense gun legislation” fixes rotten judges? Reduced charges?— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) September 3, 2019
Classic example of ridiculous sentencing in Chicago allowing repeat offenders to drive gun homicide: Felon fires off gun in public prosecutors let him plead guilty to a reduced charge of unlawful use of a weapon & dropped two counts of felony possession. https://t.co/k6AsaEQ0Xz

Here’s another one for you, Mayor @LightfootForChi : "Repeat gun offender, free on bail for gun possession, is charged with murdering teen in drive-by” https://t.co/iyDggj6Ybx
Perp was released early from his SECOND felony gun conviction.— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) September 3, 2019
More for you, Mayor @LightfootForChi : "University of Chicago Crime Lab looked at 2016's increase in bloodshed, it found that about 80 percent of homicide victims had a prior arrest, and almost 30 percent had a prior gun arrest.” https://t.co/i7GgnNVthx

Loesch’s facts and rebuttal are spot-on, but until voters in Chicago tire of electing Democrats who all bring the same tired, failed, gun-and-justice-system policies into office with them, nothing is going to change.
Portions of Chicago will continue to be a third-world shooting gallery. Blood will continue to be spilled. Innocent lives will still be lost. And city Democrats will continue to blame others for their failure.

Decades ago I used to be proud to say I was from Illinois. Now I am ashamed and embarrassed. We are looking for that perfect house in Missouri and escape this terminally doomed cesspool called Illinois. Leave if you can. It is only going to get worse in the Land of Lincoln.
Wouldn’t Abe be proud. NOT !
I was born and raised outside of Chicago and enjoyed going into the city until it became too dangerous. I escaped corrupt Illinois for Florida 30 years ago and NEVER looked back. Gun-friendly state and can carry concealed all day long! Get out of that state ASAP!
A typical, childish response from a leftist politician. It’s always someone else’s fault.
