(NationalSentinel) Sen. Lindsey Graham on Tuesday called on Attorney General William Barr to immediately declassify FBI and Justice Department applications for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) applications pertaining to surveillance warrants obtained to spy on members of President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.
In a letter, the South Carolina Republican and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee urged the AG to publish the documents as a means of informing Americans about details related to the applications which, many believe, were filed using the bogus “Russia dossier” as the basis for the warrants, which legal experts say amounts to fraud.
“Since March 28, 2018, the Department’s Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, has been conducting an investigation into the Department’s and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s compliance with legal requirements, and with applicable Department and FBI policies and procedures, in applications filed with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) related to Carter Page. According to Inspector General Michael Horowitz that investigation is nearing completion,” Graham wrote in a letter to Barr Tuesday morning, TownHall reported.
“In order for the Inspector General to be able to present the most complete results of his investigation to Congress and the American people, certain documents will need to be declassified and released to the public,” he wrote.
“I write to urge you to declassify all documents the Inspector General identifies as appropriate for declassification as much as possible, without harming national security.”
In his letter, the senator listed the documents he believes should be made public:
All documents and communications originally shared with the Gang of Eight in May 2018 related to the investigation into Russia interference in the 2016 election, including any transcripts of summaries of transcripts of conversations between George Papadopoulos and confidential informants.
The applications for FISA warrants and any renewals thereof for Carter Page or anyone else associated with the Trump campaign.
Any opinions from the FISC related to the Carter Page FISA or other Trump campaign related FISAs.
The chart that shows the FBI’s attempts to verify the allegations in the Steele dossier.
Any FBI or Department documents or communications discussing Christopher Steel’s credibility and/or biases or the FBI or the Department’s knowledge of Steele’s contacts with members of the meida.
FD-302s or other interview summaries related to anyone at FBI or the Department who interacted or accepted documents or communications from Christopher Steele, Glenn Simpson, Fusion GPS, Michael Sussman, Perkins Coie, or the Democratic National Committee (DNC) or anyone associated with the DNC.
The FBI’s confidential human source reports and related documents and communications for Christopher Steele.
Documents and communications related to the defensive briefings given to both the Clinton and Trump campaigns.
Graham has previously insisted that Barr, upon his nomination and appointment as AG, was “pretty upset” with the “Spygate” scandal and the way the Obama FBI and Justice Department allowed themselves to become politicized against a rival presidential campaign. “I know Bill Barr and he’s pretty upset about how all of this was handled… I hope there is a special counsel appointed to look at DOJ corruption and political bias,” he told Bartiromo.
“I think it’s important to understand that political bias probably drove the Clinton outcome and not the facts… I just want the American people to know that the standards used against Clinton is an outlier. It’s not the way business is done,” he continued.
“And why did they choose that path? I think they had a political bias. They wanted Clinton to win, Trump to lose… Well May 1st, Barr is going to bring the Mueller Report over… I’m going to turn looking toward the counter-intelligence investigation. How the Clinton email investigation was handled and FISA abuse,” Graham pledged.
