(NationalSentinel) When our founders rejected the election of presidents by popular vote, they did so for several reasons, not the least of which they believed that, in the future, large urban areas would decide presidential elections, thereby alienating large swaths of rural regions.

But the very last thing that entered their minds when devising the alternative — the selection of a president by the Electoral College — was race.

Yet somehow, a 30-year-old former bartender and freshman representative from New York, who embodies an authoritarian political philosophy that our founders rebelled against, believes that’s the sole reason for its implementation.

In a video posted to Instagram this week, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called the Electoral College a racist “scam” as she drove through some rural portion of the country.

“We’re coming to you live from the Electoral College,” she said, National Review reported. “Many votes here, as you can see. Very efficient way to choose leadership of the country. I mean I can’t think of any other way, can you?”

She then went on to cite an analysis from a Left-wing media source, New York Magazine, which claimed that black, Hispanic and Asian-American voters are underrepresented by the Electoral College compared with white Americans.

“Due to severe racial disparities in certain states,” she continued, “the Electoral College effectively weighs white voters over voters of color, as opposed to a ‘one person, one vote’ system where all our votes are counted equally.”

“Could you image if we had this kind democracy-altering ‘fairness’ provision for literally any other group?” she asked. “If we weighed, for example, black and indigenous voters more because of unfairness?”

“Facts are facts, America,” she concluded. “The Electoral College has to go.”

She also claimed, of course, that the Electoral College was a product of “slavery.”

It could be that whites are ‘overrepresented’ in many parts of the country because whites are the majority race in those regions. But clearly, this neophyte congresswoman doesn’t believe that minorities are underrepresented in all parts of the country like, say, California, where whites are not in the majority? Or New Mexico? Or parts of her own home state of New York? Or Florida? Or Texas?

The Electoral College has been under assault by the Left for years, but especially since 2000, when George W. Bush barely won an electoral majority after the Supreme Court ruled that Florida could not continue to count and recount and recount its ballots indefinitely.

The Left really stepped up their attacks after President Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016 after an Electoral College landslide handed him the victory though she received nearly 3 million more votes.

But here is the brilliance of the founders and of course, it’s completely lost on Ocasio-Cortez because her political ideology prevents her from rational thought: Clinton’s majority came solely from California, meaning that state would have been responsible for electing our president while the other 49 states became disenfranchised.

The Democrat Left will continue to hammer away at our founding system until they have the political power to extinguish so they can rule in perpetuity.

That said, PragerU explains the Electoral College process succinctly and brilliantly.
