Special counsel Robert Mueller couldn’t resist ending his “Russian collusion” probe without figuratively smacking POTUS Donald Trump upside the head, so he left open the ‘possibility’ that the president may have committed “obstruction of justice” when he fired FBI Director James Comey.
Here’s the key phrase, which Attorney General William Barr quoted in his memo summary of Mueller’s findings: “While this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”
Naturally, this was all the dishonest “mainstream” media needed in order to continue running with pretty much the same bogus story they have been repeating for nearly two years: That the president is guilty, guilty, guilty of…something. And the fact that Mueller did not definitely say, “Nope, didn’t find any obstruction,” to them means…”Obstruction!”
Barr’s memo notes:
Obstruction of Justice. The report’s second part addresses a number of actions by the President most of which have been the subject of public reporting that the Special Counsel investigated as potentially raising obstruction-of-justice concerns.
After making a “thorough factual investigation” into these matters, the Special Counsel considered whether to evaluate the conduct under Department standards governing prosecution and declination decisions but ultimately determined not to make a traditional prosecutorial judgment.Â
The Special Counsel therefore did not draw a conclusion one way or the other as to whether the examined conduct constituted obstruction. Instead, for each of the relevant actions investigated, the report sets out evidence on both sides of the question and leaves unresolved what the Special Counsel views as “difficult issues” of law and fact concerning whether the President’s actions and intent could be viewed as obstruction.Â
The Special Counsel states that “while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”
The low foreheads at CNN, MSNBC, and the networks — sorry, ‘legal analysts’ — all had their theories. Among them:
— Barr’s a hack because he had already written a memo stating the ‘obstruction’ theory was “fatally misconceived” and he said in an interview that the theory was “asinine.”
— Barr’s covering for POTUS, his boss.
— Mueller really did want to charge the president but there was disagreement among his prosecutors (all of whom were Democrat and/or Hillary donors and supporters and whom, you just know, wanted to tee off on Trump).
But here’s the reality of why Mueller never made any recommendations to pursue charges against the president:Â There were no charges to pursue.
The president’s Democratic and Leftist opponents claim that he “obstructed” the Russia probe when he fired Comey. But a) presidents can constitutionally fire anyone who works under them in the Executive Branch, taking into account that there could be political consequences (impeachment) for said action, but no legal consequences; and b) the investigation continued — without hesitation, hence the appointment of Mueller.
How can there be obstruction when nothing was obstructed and the president, per the Constitution, has king-like control over the branch of government he heads?
There is also this. Mueller, at various times during his career, was an assistant United States attorney; a United States attorney; United States assistant attorney general for the Criminal Division; a homicide prosecutor in Washington, D.C.; acting United States deputy attorney general; and director of the FBI. Are we to believe that, after all of this federal law enforcement and Justice Department experience, he has no idea what does and does not constitute criminal obstruction?
Remember, he couldn’t have brought charges against POTUS because longstanding Justice Department policy states that sitting presidents cannot be charged. But all eyes were on him when he filed his report; certainly, he could have recommended the president be charged for ‘obstruction.’
But he didn’t even do that.
So he left the decision to a man who’d only been attorney general for less than six weeks — after he spent most of two years investigating the president for “obstruction” and “conspiratorial” collusion?
Once again, the Deep State has bared its hand for all who care to see.
As talk radio legend Rush Limbaugh noted on his program Friday, Mueller wasn’t conducting an “investigation” over the past several months because there was nothing to ‘investigate.’ The Russian collusion allegation was always a hoax; a fabrication; a made-up construct that the Deep State used as a premise to execute their coup attempt.
So, of course, he’d find POTUS ‘innocent’ as charged. But leaving open the “obstruction” possibility gives the Deep State-aligned media and the rest of the coup conspirators the cracked door which they can slip through to continue justifying the pursuit of the president.
Mueller’s report isn’t an end, in other words. It’s just another means to an end: Getting rid of Donald Trump.
