Once again, ‘Democratic Socialist’ Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) has demonstrated her legendary tone-deafness, this time bashing “capitalism” at a technology event in Austin, Texas that showcased the marvels of our capitalist system.
In an hour-long interview with The Intercept‘s Briahna Gray at the annual South by Southwest event, Ocasio-Cortez discussed the “politics of optimism” with an audience consisting mostly of tech industry marketing gurus and social media “influencers.”
She pontificated on (accord to her) the endless flaws of capitalism, which she, again, got confused with crony capitalism, how FDR’s New Deal was premised on racism (??), of course getting rid of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), incrementalism and the ‘moderate mindset.’
Regarding capitalism, Zero Hedge‘s Tyler Durden noted, “AOC warned that America is grappling with the consequences of putting ‘profits over everything else in our society’ for so long and that the capitalist system, as it stands, is ‘irredeemable.’ Though, apparently, the irony of bashing capitalism at a bougie tech-industry financed marketing orgy was lost on her.”
“Capitalism is an ideology of capital — the most important thing is the concentration of capital and to seek and maximize profit…so to me capitalism is irredeemable,” she said.
That’s classic crony capitalism, as explained here by PragerU, not true free-market capitalism, which is what we support:
Regarding her “Green New Deal,” which will get a vote in the Senate soon, the New York freshman lawmaker said she would like to see us take care of communities like Michael Moore’s hometown of Flint, Mich., right off the bat because minorities who live there were left out of FDR’s New Deal (unspoken — because FDR was racist!!).
Most Americans likely view the original New Deal as a precursor to government-initiated welfare programs that benefit white and minority Americans, Ocasio-Cortez deemed the laws racist anyway due to some concept she called “red-lining.”
“The New Deal was an extremely economically racist policy that drew little red lines around black and brown communities and it invested in white America,” she claimed.
“It allowed white Americans access to home loans that black Americans didn’t have access to, giving them access to the greatest source of intergenerational wealth.”
Whether she’s got some of her facts right or not, she doesn’t have all her facts. For example, she neglected to mention that the New Deal’s minimum wage laws resulted in 500,000 Black Americans losing their jobs, according to the Cato Institute.
Another bizarre moment came when she repeated what is now obviously one of her far-Left anti-ICE talking points (lie): She accused ICE of injecting immigrant children with antipsychotics during raids.
“I don’t think that an agency that repeatedly and systematically violates human rights can be reformed…I think it needs to be abolished,†Ocasio-Cortez said.
Former Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan recently came nearly unglued on the air refuting her nonsense. “…[T]his this lady, this congresswoman needs to get her facts straight!.. I’m sick of this!†he railed recently.
Ocasio-Cortez then criticized so-called “moderates” in her party who settle for solutions that are “10 percent better than garbage.” Her solution is radical Leftism, no questions asked — though most Americans by far prefer moderate incremental approaches to public policy.
But hey, though her campaign is now being investigated for campaign finance violations, as Durden noted, at least Ocasio-Cortez has made a new friend.
