(National Sentinel)Â Socialists: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democrats have not yet taken control of the lower chamber but already they have plans to make it easier to undo the economic progress of the Republican majority and POTUS Donald Trump.
Specifically, they want to take away the extra earnings Republicans and the president gave back to you in the form of tax cuts a year ago.
As the Washington Free Beacon reported, incoming chairman of the House Rules Committee, Rep. Jim McGovern (D., Mass.), confirmed to his colleagues this week that he won’t honor the three-fifths supermajority requirement to raise income taxes.
The Washington Post noted as well that McGovern seeks to overturn the three-fifths rule implemented by outgoing (and retiring) House Speaker Paul Ryan.
For her part, Pelosi wanted to keep the rule intact for tax increases “on the lowest-earning 80 percent of taxpayers” — which is a joke considering that the vast majority of income taxes aren’t paid by American earners in that group but rather by the top 20 percent of earners (87 percent in fact, The Wall Street Journal reported in April).
But Pelosi backed down after a standoff with her ‘moderate’ allies in the Democratic conference including incoming Ways and Means Committee chairman Richard Neal of Massachusetts and the likes of young Marxist Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, the “economics” major who wants to introduce tens of trillions of dollars’ worth of freebies the country would go broke trying to finance.
The Free Beacon noted further:
In November Pelosi and Neal initially proposed keeping the three-fifths supermajority rule for income tax increases “on the lowest-earning 80 percent of taxpayers.” That notion, however, met stern opposition from Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives because it would severely constrain the ability of House Democrats to find new revenue sources to fund measures like universal health care and free college tuition.
So what’s Pelosi’s angle here? She wants the speakership again:
A number of progressive organizations that had been strong allies of Pelosi and the Democratic leadership broke ranks on the issue and sided with the progressive politicians. MoveOn, which spent more than $27 million this election cycle bolstering Democrats up and down the ballot, called Pelosi’s proposal a “staggeringly bad idea.” The organization made the announcement shortly after endorsing Pelosi’s return to the speakership.Â
Republicans have already gone on the offensive, pointing out that McGovern’s rule change is a direct assault on the “middle class.”
“It’s barely gotten any attention, but Nancy Pelosi just made it easier for House Dems to raise taxes on everyone,” RNC chair Ronna Romney McDaniel wrote on Twitter. “Not on the wealthy. Everyone.”
Mind you, a massive tax increase isn’t likely; it won’t get through the GOP-controlled Senate and it certainly won’t get past POTUS Trump.
But this should serve as a warning shot across America’s bow that if Democrats manage to steal enough power in the years ahead, they’re going to come for our wallets — as well as our right to speak freely and our guns.
