DHS has undercover informants in migrant caravans and is monitoring texts

(National SentinelIntelligence: The Department of Homeland Security is reportedly monitoring the texts of migrants in caravans moving through Mexico and has inserted paid informants in them as well, reports claimed on Tuesday.

NBC News reported that migrants are texting each other using the social media platform WhatsApp. Already, American officials have managed to thwart at least one attempt by migrants to cross into illegally into the U.S. en masse.

Katie Waldman, a spokeswoman for DHS, did not confirm or deny the report.

“While not commenting on sources or methods, it would be malpractice for the United States to be ignorant about the migrants — including many criminals — attempting to enter our country. We have an obligation to ensure we know who is crossing our borders to protect against threats to the Homeland and any indication to the contrary is misinformed,” she said.

DHS intel officials have managed to ‘infiltrate’ the migrant caravans by joining text threads on WhatsApp.

Officials said that by monitoring texts they were able to stop a group of migrants who planned to illegally enter the U.S. by running across lanes of traffic, causing DHS to temporarily close them earlier this week.

At present, thousands of migrants are waiting on in Tijuana, on the Mexican side of the border, to see if they’ll be granted asylum. They’ve not been permitted to cross into the U.S. to wait.

That’s causing Tijuana residents to become upset and has led to their demands that the Mexican government remove the “invaders.”
