(National Sentinel)Â Loser: Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacy Abrams is continuing her party’s efforts to delegitimize any election they don’t win by refusing to call her GOP opponent Brian Kemp governor of Georgia after it became clear over the weekend he has defeated her.
In an interview by Jake Tapper at CNN (where else?), Abrams refused to acknowledge that Kemp’s victory was “legitimate.”
Tapper pressed her several times regarding Kemp’s victory but she repeatedly refused to say the word “legitimate.â€
“Sherrod Brown says the election was stolen. Do you agree that it was stolen and do you think that Brian Kemp is not the legitimate governor-elect of Georgia?†Tapper asked.
“The law, as it stands, says that he received an adequate number of votes to become the governor of Georgia,†Abrams said.
“And I acknowledge the law as it stands. I am a lawyer by training and I have taken the constitutional oath to uphold the law. But we know sometimes the law does not do what it should and something being legal does not make it right.â€
Abrams then talked about voter protection while accusing Kemp, without evidence, of compromising the state’s electoral system.
Tapper pressed on, however: “Is he the legitimate governor-elect of Georgia?â€
Abrams replied, “He is the person who won the adequate number of votes to become the governor.â€
Tapper noted, to his credit, that Abrams wasn’t really answering the question.
“You’re not using the word legitimate. Is he the legitimate governor-elect of Georgia?†he said.
“He is the legal governor of Georgia,†Abrams repeated. “Words have meaning. I spent my lifetime not only as an attorney but as a writer and I’m careful of the words I choose.â€
She then said she wouldn’t use the word ‘legitimate’ because she believes the election was tainted — again, because she lost.
“What you are looking for me to say is that there was no compromise of our democracy and there should be some political compromise in the language I use and that’s not right. What’s not right is saying that something was done properly when it was not,” she said.
This is the new Democratic strategy to undermine our electoral system. They’ve shifted from screaming about “Russian interference” in our elections to “Republicans stole the election!” in a bid to delegitimize the entire process.
Except when they win, which often occurs days or weeks after polls close (see Arizona, California).
This is not simply disgusting behavior, it’s dangerous because what follows is this: If GOP victories aren’t legitimate, then nothing Republican victors do after they get in office is legitimate.
And a sizeable portion of our population will believe that.
Preventing our descent into anarchy depends on our mutual agreement to abide by the law and the social contract we as citizens make with each other and our government. When even a plurality of Americans decide to forego the agreement and violate the contract, chaos will ensue.
For most Americans, it’s hard to wrap their heads around the fact that Democrats are pushing for this very scenario. But refusing to see it or believe it doesn’t make it any less true.
Stacy Abrams just proved it.
