(National Sentinel) Nuisance: If you needed another example to prove our country badly needs tort reform addressing frivolous class-action lawsuits, this is it.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced that his state will sue the Trump administration over its alleged ‘slow response’ to providing disaster relief for Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria in September 2017 — because, you know, POTUS Donald Trump is a racist.

“President Trump never tried to help Puerto Rico. Florida got attention, Texas got attention, and Puerto Rico got the short end of the stick. That is not just wrong and unethical and despicable, it is also illegal,” Cuomo said.

“We’re going to work with Puerto Rican families and sue the President of the United States because New York is standing with Puerto Rico the way we said we would.”

Cuomo’s office compared the 39 percent of federal applications for relief from victims of Harvey to the 28 percent for Maria, both after 87 days, WHAM reported.

The Left-wing governor’s announcement comes — not so coincidentally, mind you — at the same time the island of Puerto Rico has dramatically raised its official death toll from Maria. Initially, the island’s government estimated deaths at 64; now, suddenly, the death toll has shot up to nearly 3,000.

Without a doubt, this lawsuit is politically motivated. There is nothing that the administration did for victims of hurricanes in Texas and Florida that it did not attempt to do for Puerto Rico.

Let’s consider some other factors this ridiculous suit ignores:

bullet proof vests

— For days after the hurricane, relief goods and supplies sat idle in storage because there was little infrastructure left to distribute them. “It’s one thing to get supplies to Puerto Rico. But officials at the Department of Homeland Security, which administers FEMA, say moving goods around the island is the bigger challenge. Diesel is short. Drivers are scarce. And authorities say some roads are still impassable, although local officials dispute that explanation,” NPR reported.

So there’s that.

— The damage caused by Maria was so devastating it completely closed ports for days until they could be cleared. So even though supplies arrived, they couldn’t be off-loaded.

So there’s that.

— Before Maria, the island’s infrastructure — particularly its power grid — was already being held together with duct tape and baler twine. It was dilapidated and antiquated, which was not ‘the federal government’s fault’ and certainly not POTUS Trump.

So there’s that.

This lawsuit is bogus. It’s a nuisance lawsuit. It has no merit whatsoever and it’s not going to go anywhere.

Nevertheless, here’s another Democrat taking advantage of someone else’s grief for political purposes.

Pathetic.
