(National Sentinel) Insanity: Despite the fact that you could bury the world’s trash in a minuscule portion of the Earth, Left-wing environmental wackos are hell-bent on getting as many modern conveniences banned or regulated as possible.

In recent months they’ve managed to convince liberal lawmakers and policymakers that plastic straws will destroy the planet if they are not banned from at least some major cities. Now these same goofballs are coming after another party favorite: Balloons.

The Associated Press reports:

The joyous celebration of releasing balloons into the air has long bothered environmentalists, who say the pieces that fall back to earth can be deadly to seabirds and turtles that eat them. So as companies vow to banish plastic straws, there are signs balloons will be among the products to get more scrutiny, even though they’re a very small part of environmental pollution.

Mind you, there is very likely little accurate data available on the number of “seabirds” and “turtles” that are killed every year eating rubber balloon fragments, so we really don’t know what kind of a ‘threat’ they are to aquatic life in general.

What’s more, the vast majority of the country doesn’t have any seaborne aquatic life, so there’s that.

And yet, this idiocy is already catching on because it’s just too tempting of an issue to not virtue-signal, apparently.

The AP:

This year, college football powerhouse Clemson University is ending its tradition of releasing 10,000 balloons into the air before games, a move that’s part of its sustainability efforts. In Virginia, a campaign that urges alternatives to balloon releases at weddings is expanding. And a town in Rhode Island outright banned the sale of all balloons earlier this year, citing the harm to marine life.

Just. Wow.

“Balloon release restrictions are already in the books in some states and environmentalists are pushing hard to toughen the restrictions,” The Daily Caller reported further.

“California has banned the sale of certain types of Balloons since the 1990’s and there is a major movement to make it the first state to outright ban the releasing of balloons into the air. Many of the left see balloons as the next logical step in what to ban after plastic bags and straws.”

Just in time to save the planet, huh?

Hardly. Balloon waste doesn’t even crack the Top 10 pollutants in America.
