(National Sentinel) Scrutiny: For months various conservative and independent news publishers like us have been reporting on credible studies showing that the social media behemoths are down-rating, censoring, and shadow-banning our content.

The kind of censorship Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Google have engaged in is nothing less than the kind of censorship communist regimes like China and socialist authoritarians in places like Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela engage in.

While conservatives aren’t particularly keen about regulations, it’s become clear that in cases where the social media companies are taking advertising dollars from conservative and indy publishers and then censoring or shadow-banning them to boot, that’s an anti-trust issue and is already against the law.

Now, as Facebook’s stock tanked about 20 percent ($110 billion) on Thursday and Twitter’s stock is getting hammered today, POTUS Donald Trump and a leading Republican have weighed into this fight — and it’s about time.

For his part, POTUS promised that his administration will investigate allegations of banning and censorship:

“Twitter “SHADOW BANNING” prominent Republicans. Not good. We will look into this discriminatory and illegal practice at once! Many complaints.”

As The Western Journal reported:

There has been coverage for more than a year of Twitter hiding conservatives’ tweets and accounts by Breitbart, which reports that left-leaning outlets have also looked into the issue.

Trump’s tweet was in response to Republican politicians who have complained about Twitter, including GOP Reps. Matt Gaetz of Florida, Mark Meadows of North Carolina and Jim Jordan of Ohio, according to New York Post.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., also pledged a congressional effort to thwart Silicon Valley censorship.

“Social media is being rigged to censor conservatives. It’s time to rise up and demand accountability from Big Tech,” he wrote. “WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.”

Frankly, this is overdue — but welcomed.

Our site has spent thousands on Facebook marketing, only to see our referral traffic plummet while our “likes” skyrocketed, thanks to the social media site’s “algorithm changes.”

When you aren’t permitted to even reach users who have “liked” your page, that’s criminal.
