(National Sentinel) Heroes: In recent months, “Abolish ICE!” has become a new rallying cry among the American far Left.
Cranks like Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Marxist-lite congressional candidate from New York and the massively out-of-touch establishment media’s new darling, are leading the calls.
But as more and more Democrats including Sens. Kamala Harris of California and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, both potential 2020 presidential contenders, continue to complain about ICE and call for its demise, the men and women of Immigration and Customs Enforcement are continuing to do their jobs and in a massively successful way.
As Yahoo News reports:
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are arresting more undocumented immigrants at their workplaces and conducting more investigations of businesses to see if they employ undocumented immigrants, according to numbers disclosed by the agency on Tuesday.
From October 2017 until July 20, ICE made 984 workplace arrests, more than five times the number of arrests made during the last fiscal year, from October 2016 to September 2017. During that period, ICE arrested 172 people under what the agency calls “worksite enforcement.â€
The agency is also targeting more businesses suspected of employing undocumented immigrants, opening 6,093 investigations so far this fiscal year, compared with 1,716 conducted last fiscal year.
According to the new statistics, ICE has also initiated nearly four times as many I-9 audits, in which agency officials mandate employers to prove that their employees have documentation to work in the U.S.
For years Americans concerned about out-of-control illegal immigration have said immigration authorities should go after employers who hire people not legally in the country.
The Trump administration is doing just that.
The men and women who work for ICE are heroes doing a tough job that few others could or would want to do.
They deserve our support, not our derision like many Democrats want to mete out.
