(National Sentinel) Unhinged: This is today’s Democratic Party: If you can’t win elections and assume power the normal way, you steal power by changing the rules of the game.
On Friday Rhode Island’s Democrat-controlled Senate overwhelmingly passed a bill that would require each presidential candidate, beginning in the 2020 election, to publicly release their tax returns.
As reported by The Providence Journal:
Rhode Island is the latest state taking steps to require candidates for president and vice-president to make their tax returns public as a prerequisite to getting on the Rhode Island ballot.
The state Senate 34-to-3 for a bill to require candidates on a presidential ticket to release tax returns going back five years.
As noted by the lead sponsor, Sen. Gayle Goldin, every president since The Providence Journal exposed Richard Nixon’s tax returns has made them public voluntarily, until Donald Trump.
Republican Sen. Elaine Morgan of Hopkinton asked why the president should have to do that, if state lawmakers face no such requirement.
Goldin argued — and the majority in the Democrat-dominated Senate agreed — that “tax returns provide essential information about candidates’ conflicts of interest,″ and other vital information to a voter weighing a decision.
Just unreal. Here we are more than three years after POTUS Trump announced he would run for the presidency, and unhinged Left-wing Democrats are still obsessed with his tax returns.
And this, from one of our original 13 states.
These geniuses have a big problem with their plan to steal power:Â The Constitution.
Individual states don’t get to change the rules regarding the qualification of candidates for federal office, especially the presidency.
Not only can no one compel Trump to release private documents, Congress makes the rules when it comes to federal elections.
For its part, the Rhode Island House won’t even be taking up the bill.
“The House is not planning to consider this bill in the final days of this year’s legislative session,” Larry Berman, the director of communications for the Rhode Island speaker of the House, said. “The House has no plans to pass it. It takes two chambers to pass a bill.”
Nevertheless, this just goes to show once more that the Left doesn’t care about rules or the Constitution.
