Investigators seek to understand #NeverTrump CIA chief Brennan’s role in Russia investigation

(National SentinelDeep State: As congressional investigators continue to uncover evidence of improper or potentially illegal activity within the Obama FBI and Justice Department regarding their investigation of Team Trump for alleged “collusion” with Russia, they are zeroing in on former CIA Director John Brennan’s involvement.

As reported by The Daily Caller‘s Chuck Ross, investigators know that Brennan, a frequent critic of President Donald J. Trump, played a “prominent role” in the probe and that he briefed then-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., about Trump associates’ contacts with Russians.

In briefing him, however, Reid believed that Brennan likely had an “ulterior motive” — that he was using Reid to publicize alleged links between Team Trump and Russian associates.

That’s according to a new book, “Russian Roulette,” by Michael Isikoff and David Corn that was published last month.

The contact between Reid and Brennan are of “significant” interest to congressional investigators looking into the former director’s role as it pertained to the Russia investigation, Ross reported, citing unnamed sources.

“By his own account, Brennan played a prominent role in starting the investigation of Trump’s team,” a congressional source with direct knowledge of the House of Representatives’ Russia investigations said.

“Investigators in Congress suspect there are important details about his role that he hasn’t revealed, and we’re trying to get to the bottom of it,” the source added.

Ross noted further:

According to “Russian Roulette,” by Yahoo! News chief investigative correspondent Michael Isikoff and David Corn, the Washington bureau chief of the left-wing Mother Jones magazine, Brennan contacted Reid on Aug. 25, 2016, to brief him on the state of Russia’s interference in the presidential campaign. Brennan briefed other members of the so-called Gang of Eight, but Reid is the only who took direct action.

Two days after that briefing, Reid wrote a letter to then-FBI Director James Comey claiming that “evidence of a direct connection between the Russian government and Donald Trump’s presidential campaign continues to mount.”

Since then, however, no evidence has turned up, despite the Obama-era investigation and subsequent federal and congressional investigations.

Reid saw Brennan’s outreach as “a sign of urgency,” Isikoff and Corn wrote.

“Reid also had the impression that Brennan had an ulterior motive. He concluded the CIA chief believed the public needed to know about the Russian operation, including the information about the possible links to the Trump campaign,” they continued in the book.

Congressional probers want to know if Brennan, now an intelligence analyst for MSNBC, pressed Congress or the FBI to reveal details of the Russian investigation, Ross noted.

“The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence recently sent Brennan and other top Obama administration officials letters with a list of questions about their actions during the Russia probe. Brennan provided a response to those questions last month,” he wrote.

Though he appears to have played a large part in the investigation, Brennan, under oath, has testified before congressional committees that he did not know at the time if collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia was real.

“I don’t know whether such collusion existed. I don’t know,” Brennan testified before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on May 23, 2017.

“I don’t have sufficient information to make a determination whether or not such cooperation or complicity or collusion was taking place, but I know there was a basis to have individuals pull those threads,” he said during his testimony.

Former Asst. FBI Director James Kallstrom has said he believes that Brennan, along with former President Obama, were likely guilty of felonies, but not President Donald J. Trump’s first national security advisor, Michael Flynn.

“My sources tell me [Brennan] was leaking almost weekly or daily, and he was taking that bunch of phony crap supposedly from Russia, and peddling that through the Congress and the media, he was one of the active people,” Kallstrom said, citing unnamed sources from the intelligence community.

“I’ve known him a long time and I think he’s involved, and quite frankly, I think it goes right to the top, quite frankly,” he continued.
