(National Sentinel) Executive Branch: President Donald J. Trump has trolled the “mainstream” media (and Democrats) for more than a month now, teasing the idea that there may be recordings of his conversations with now-fired FBI Director James Comey.

Turns out…there aren’t, as the president admitted today in a series of tweets.

The president tweeted on May 12 after firing Comey that the former FBI director “better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!” Trump explained today that he merely made the claim in an effort to get Comey to testify honestly to the Senate Intelligence Committee, when it occurred.

However, Trump obviously trolled Comey as well, as The Daily Caller notes:

Comey said that this tweet inspired him to leak details about his conversations with Trump to the press. The House Intelligence Committee also sent a letter to White House Counsel Don McGahn on June 9 asking whether the tapes exist and, if they do, to turn them over before June 23.

Trump tweeted Thursday: “With all of the recently reported electronic surveillance, intercepts, unmasking and illegal leaking of information, I have no idea whether there are ‘tapes’ or recordings of my conversations with James Comey, but I did not make, and do not have, any such recordings.”

But honestly, hasn’t it been fun to watch Trump drive official Washington crazy, while he plays them like a fiddle?

And we’re only five months into his first term.
