(National Sentinel)Â Political discourse:Â In the decades leading up to the Civil War, the most pressing political issue - slavery - was also the most divisive. The country’s inability to peacefully abolish it eventually exploded into armed conflict.
Are we at another point in our history where our political differences cannot be resolved peacefully? Millions of Americans, as well as some in Congress, think so, especially after the assassination attempt last week on Republican lawmakers.
In an interview with Breitbart News Sunday, U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., believes the “militant Left” has now decided that the only way to ‘solve’ political differences is through bloodshed - as in, violently forcing the other side to either agree with them or die.
In describing last week’s attack as “premeditated” based on reports that far-Left ‘progressive’ and Bernie Sanders supporter James. T. Hodgkinson had a “hit list” when he attacked GOP lawmakers on a baseball field in northern Virginia, Franks said that it means “we have devolved to a great point in our society now. To the point where the militant left is out there to the extent that they are willing to shoot people.â€
After pushing back against Democrat calls for more gun control - their pat response to any high-profile shooting - Franks discussed his thoughts on the rising anger among military Leftists:
The militant left here has been outrageous. It’s not conservatives that are going out there burning cars and turning them upside down in universities just because someone is speaking. It’s not the conservatives that are saying “pigs in a blanket†and advocating for the killing of police officers. It’s not the conservatives that are shooting people in the baseball field. This militant left is out of control and I think that the so-called moderates should stand up and eschew this and really call them out in a flagrant way.
