(NationalSentinel) With so much friction between the “deep state” of the U.S. intelligence and foreign policy communities and President Donald J. Trump, some have begun to worry if the commander-in-chief is getting complete briefings from staff so that he can make fully informed decisions about how best to protect the country.
At least one former intelligence official doesn’t think so.
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, retired Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer, a former analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency, told Fox News‘ Martha McCallum that he thinks Obama-era holdovers are withholding intelligence data from Trump.
“The problem is this, you have a lot of folks who are either career members of the intelligence community who are skeptical of the current situation or who were at one point political appointees who have burrowed themselves into the infrastructure who are now career intelligence officers,” he said.
Shaffer added that it’s become obvious people embedded in the national security infrastructure are loyalists to past administrations, meaning they “[judge] for themselves what they should or should not do regarding intelligence.”

“The same mentality where you’ve seen people leaking is the same mentality you see people holding information,” he said, adding that the Trump administration should consider a “house cleaning” (which is what appears to be taking place at the State Department under new Secretary of State Rex Tillerson).
McCallum asked the former CIA analyst if the agency’s new director, former U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo, was upset about the president perhaps not getting all the intelligence he needs from some careerists who disagree with him politically.
Shaffer said he was sure that the new director wasn’t happy.
“He is owed the best intelligence all the time, and what we’ve seen over the past eight years is a manipulation of the intelligence community,” Shaffer said, as the Washington Free Beacon reported. “Much of that manipulation happened because of like-minded individuals to Jim Clapper, to the former Director of the CIA John Brennan, those people hire people like themselves, so as much as Jim Clapper can say now, ‘well, you know you need to protect the professionals,’ some of those professionals were selected because of their reliability, not because of their professional ethics.”
