(NationalSentinel) Political opponents of Donald J. Trump like to portray him as mentally “unfit” and too “unstable” to be president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, but what do you say about a sitting president who is intentionally ramping up tensions with a nuclear-armed great power?

09-02-16-03-17-18_promo_article_160x600-option-1As a move to counter “Russian aggression,” Obama has ordered U.S. Special Forces to the Baltic States bordering Russia, as NATO also is reportedly gearing up as well, Britain’s The Sun newspaper reported in online editions.

Why? Because Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered nuclear-capable missiles deployed to the province of Kaliningrad, as if this is some sort of world-threatening move. The U.S. has nuclear missiles within quick striking distance of Russia (and another country in the world) via submarine every day of the week, which is smart strategy. And yet we don’t see other countries “responding” to that.

The Sun noted further:

…Lithuanian Defence Ministry spokeswoman Asta Galdikaite confirmed America has offered additional military support following Russia invasion of Crimea.

She said: “The United States was the first to offer additional safety assurance measures to the Baltic countries following the deterioration of the security situation in the region after the annexation of the Crimea”.

She added: “US Special Operations Forces presence in Lithuania is one of the deterrents” against military threats by Putin’s aggressive regime, reports the Express.

In an interview with The New York Times, Gen. Raymond Thomas said that Baltic states bordering Russia are “scared to death” and pleading for some security assurances. “They are very open about that. They’re desperate for our leadership.”

But wait. The Times reported that they spoke to Gen. Raymond T. Thomas, head of the Pentagon’s Special Operations Command; but is that the same person as Gen. Raymond A. Thomas, commander, U.S. Special Operations Command?

Who knows; could be a typo by the Times and it could be more propaganda from an administration that wouldn’t tell the truth even when the truth would actually be better, politically.

In any event, the Times further noted that U.S. Special Forces have been active in the Baltic States for some time, so why is this being reported now? What is the purpose of leaking this to the Times, which is precisely what took place?

Is this just another political landmine President Obama is leaving for Trump to have to deal with when he takes office in about two weeks? It sure seems like it.
