President Obama seems determined to do all he can to sabotage the incoming Trump administration, and he took another step in that direction earlier today.
Using an executive order, Obama leveled sanctions against Russian intelligence services and order scores of intelligence operatives out of the United States, Fox News reported.
The news network noted further:
Using an executive order, Obama sanctioned the GRU and the FSB — two of Russia’s intelligence services as well as other entities and individuals associated with the GRU. The cybersecurity firm hired by the Democratic National Committee to investigate the hack of its emails earlier this year the hacking came from the Fancy Bear group, believed to be affiliated with the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence agency.
In addition to the sanctions, the State Department has declared 35 Russian intelligence operatives “persona non grata” in the U.S., and is shutting down two Russian compounds in Maryland and New York. …
The Treasury Secretary meanwhile has named two individuals it says were involved in “using cyber-enabled means to cause misappropriation of funds and personal identifying information.”
As you might expect, this isn’t going over well in Moscow, where Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced he will consider retaliatory measures against the U.S.
Normally, when a U.S. president takes action against a country that is known to be an adversary, most Americans are behind him, and that is how it should be. But in this case, the alleged impetus for these new sanctions–“Russia hacked the November elections”–is completely bogus.
There was no “Russian hacking” of the U.S. elections in the sense the administration, and some GOP allies in Congress, are alleging. The information Obama, the Democratic Party, the vanquished Hillary Clinton campaign, and others are claiming was “hacked” by the Russian government and released by Wikileaks over the course of the campaign cycle came from a DNC insider. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has said as well that the data he received did not come from Moscow’s intelligence agencies.
What’s more, the so-called “fake news” that the mainstream media is lamenting–which also came from Russia, allegedly, but really didn’t–is part of this Russia hacked the election phony baloney narrative.
Obama’s disdain for President-elect Trump is only surpassed by his arrogance. Trump will have his hands full cleaning up the messy world Obama has left him.
